Quebec will be providing the lion's share
of some $300 million in funding for the
Jewish General Hospital's Critical Care
Pavilion K, a multi-year project that will see
a new state-of-the-art emergency room by
the end of the first phase.
The announcement at the hospital Friday
comes after several years of planning, and
four years of persistence by D'Arcy McGee
MNA Lawrence Bergman directed at the
Quebec health and social services ministry.
On hand for the press conference were
Bergman, Health and Social Services
Minister Yves Bolduc, JGH executive director
Hartley Stern and hospital board of

describing what a "bunch of kids" recently
did to her boat and her tool shed,
Stanevitch told The Suburban she had no
choice but to have the boat tied up on the
Nuns' Island dock because there was no
way to protect the boat from further mayhem
along the Verdun shoreline.
"The city should have a man guard the
waterfront," said ferry boat operator Michel
Lambert. "These kids are nothing but trouble
and now they're beginning to harass
people who come down to the marina."
Up to now, Lambert said it's nothing
more than a lot of "trash talk," but he also
said it's the rude and obnoxious behavior
which is beginning to scare away clients.
While both Stanevitch and Lambert
describe the local punks as a real problem,
Stanevitch said she has no intentions of

that the pavilion, located

A proud Bergman told The
Suburban that while the new

Looking into the crystal ball, will 17year-old
Benjamin Masella eventually
become a pharmacist/politician
like his dad or play professional hockey?
Speaking to me last week on the day of
his graduation from Lower Canada
College (LCC), the young man in question
confided that when he thinks about
a career he favours the option of sports
psychology. That being said, do not rule
out a National Hockey League career for
him.
Masella, whose dad is the mayor of
Montreal West, was recently drafted by
the Montreal Juniors of the Quebec
Major Junior Hockey League (QMJHL).
The six foot, 200 pound defenceman is
coming off a strong season as the captain
of the Midget AAA and West Island based
Lac St. Louis Lions. Despite the temptation
of the elite QMJHL, Masella has
opted for a chance to attend and play
hockey at Deerf ...

Lachine to MoWest: Assure access
By Joel Goldenberg
The Suburban
The borough of Lachine has
issued a statement supporting its
residents in the recent revival of the
debate over Devil's Hill, the area of
Des Érables where Lachine and
Montreal West meet.
Montreal West's right to erect a
barrier in the area was upheld in
two court cases with Lachine,
though the city of Montreal. The
barrier was erected because of complaints
of numerous cars and speeders
on Montreal West's quiet streets.
Lachine residents who opposed the
barrier felt it was a class issue.
Lachine mayor Claude Dauphin
and his council issued their statement
Monday in response to a June
9 Suburban story in which it was
announced that Montreal West
would erect a permanent sidewalk
to prevent drivers from the Lachine
area from accessing Montreal West.
Town residents in the area have
complained in recent months that
drivers were ignoring the prohibitions.
Dauphin and his council said this
week that several Lachin ...

MoWest resident wants blue box enforcement
By Joel Goldenberg
The Suburban
Montreal West council regular Daniel

"Coming in this evening [to the 8 p.m. May
31 council meeting], they were still there,"
Markuze said. "What are you doing to give
tickets to those people?"

and like any bylaws, we don't
really pick and choose the bylaws
we want to enforce. Any bylaw in
our town that's not being

Mazzone admitted. "But let's appreciate that
