The borough said this means greater access to books and services for St. Laurent residents, and to take out and return books at the City of Montreal library of their choice. ?This makes it possible for members not only to have access to the entirety of Montreal?s book collections, about five million documents, but also to carry out transactions online using the Nelligan catalogue,? says the announcement. Joanna said that wasn?t true. She told Chris about all the trips and various inquiries made among homeless shelters and other organizations in both Ottawa and Toronto as she kept trying to find her long-lost brother. At one point, her efforts could have meant the difference between life and death because she urgently needed a bone-marrow transplant to save her own life. ?Nine years ago, I was told I had an acute case of leukemia and the only way I could beat the disease was to get a bone marrow transplant from a close relative or sibling.? While Joanna had other brothers and sisters upon whom she could rely on for a bone marrow transplant, she still made a serious effort to find Chris in case things di ...

NEWS & ANALYSIS RIZZUTO Cont?d from previous page witnesses who saw a young black man wearing jeans and a ?hoodie? running down Wilson Street to a waiting getaway car after he shot Rizzuto, police also admit they found the weapon used to shoot Nick Rizzuto Jr. ?That?s not enough,? said Décarie councilor Peter McQueen. ?Police have to step up their presence in St. Raymond?s because people are getting very nervous about what?s going on in this neighborhood.? Lawlor agrees with McQueen. Recently returned from a short vacation, McQueen told The Suburban he already received several calls from concerned residents about the shooting. ?I?m going to call Commander Leduc tomorrow, ? he said, ?and if he can?t give me some good answers about what happened, I?ll just have to work my way up through the ranks until som ...

NEWS & ANALYSIS TransCon again cuts West End news By Dan Delmar The Suburban The parent company to some of Montreal?s local weeklies has again dealt a blow to community news in English Montreal by reassigning some journalists and giving others an extended vacation just before Christmas. Transcontinental Media is the fourth largest print media company in the country and owns The Westmount Examiner and The West Island Chronicle. Last year, management decided to stop printing The Monitor, converting the 83-year-old NDG institution to an internet publication. It also cut Anglo reporting in its South-West papers, leading this newspaper to expand its distribution to LaSalle and Verdun. The company?s ?rationalization? plan saved $110 million, but left newspapers like The Monitor a shadow of its former self. The website is infrequently updated and has no permanent reporters on staff. Transcontinental?s vice-president in charge of corporate communications insists the temporary layoffs are just ...
